Who we are
Centre of Wellbeing, Training & Culture (CWTC), Oldham is a registered charity which has been providing arts and culture over 30 years, regionally, national and internationally for diverse musicians and arts.
CWTC has been dedicated to promoting the education, training, touring, cultural exchange and promotion.
The Qawwali Music Development Project in Oldham aims to preserve and promote traditional Qawwali music while strengthening cultural appreciation and engagement across our diverse community. The project will support emerging Qawwali and South Asian artists through structured skill development workshops, inclusive performances, collaborations with both new and established musicians and enhance career opportunities.
By bridging cultural gaps, bringing generations together and offering opportunities for people of all backgrounds to learn, participate and enjoy Qawwali, the project will deepen understanding and empower local talent to carry this rich musical heritage forward.
Conversation and Consultation Objectives
• To gather information on opportunities, learning and performing in Oldham in Qawwali music in Oldham Borough.
• To assess engagement in Qawwali Music in Oldham Borough.
• To finding of the survey to Oldham Council and Arts Council.
The Key Aims for the consultation are:
• To provide every upcoming Asian artist and diverse artists including diverse audiences with first access to Qawwali music experiences
• Provide more opportunities for Asian artists to deepen and broaden their musical interests and skills through professional training
• Identify and nurture the most talented young musicians
• To provide train the trainer master workshops
• To provide learning of Qawwali music and instruments in schools
• To provide recording and marketing facilities at CWTC for artists trained through the project.
We are requesting musicians, practitioners, music service, schools, creative and cultural communities for feedback so their experience and knowledge can help to support the Qawwali Music Development Programme in the Borough.

We invite you to participate in this brief 10-15 minute survey aimed at gathering valuable insights to help CWTC to better understand the needs and developments required to support and enrich the tradition of Qawwali music. Your feedback is essential in helping us design programmes, resources and activities that celebrate this unique and culturally important musical tradition, develop local talent and strengthen career pathways for upcoming South Asian artists in our community.
